Machinery moving questions, answered
Straight answers about machinery moving around Toledo and about how this free matching service works.
Are you a machinery moving company?
No. ToledoMachineryMovers.com is a free request service run by Voraus LLC. We pass your request to an independent rigging company, which plans, quotes and performs the move under its own contract and insurance.
Is there a fee for sending a request?
No. It's free. Rigging companies may pay us a referral fee. You never pay us anything, and you're free to get other quotes.
What information do riggers need?
Equipment type, make and model, approximate weight and dimensions, the origin and destination addresses, access details like doors and docks, and your timeline. Photos and spec sheets help a lot.
Do I need a site survey?
For most moves, yes. Riggers usually want to see the equipment and the route, or at least detailed photos and measurements, before giving a firm price.
Who disconnects the machine?
It depends. Some riggers handle mechanical and electrical disconnects; others work alongside your electricians and machine service technicians. Clarify this in the scope.
Is my equipment insured during the move?
Ask the rigging company for a certificate of insurance and confirm coverage limits match the value of your equipment. Check your own policy as well.
Can you move equipment across the state line?
Yes, we can pass along moves between Ohio and Michigan or farther. Oversize loads need permits in each state.
How much notice should I give?
Simple moves can sometimes be scheduled within a week or two. Plant relocations and shutdown-window jobs need much more lead time.
Can the move happen over a weekend?
Many companies offer weekend and off-shift work to limit production downtime, usually at a higher rate.
How do I stop communications?
Reply "stop" to any email from us or use the contact in our privacy policy, and we'll stop contacting you and stop sharing your request.
Safety, insurance and what to check
Ohio doesn't issue a specific state license for machinery moving. What matters is the company's safety program, training, insurance and experience with equipment like yours. Ask for a certificate of insurance listing general liability and, where relevant, rigger's liability or cargo coverage that matches the value of your equipment, plus workers' compensation coverage through Ohio's state system. If cranes are used, operators should be certified under federal OSHA rules.
We don't vet the condition of any company's equipment or guarantee its work, and a match is not an endorsement. Confirm insurance limits and get the scope in writing.
Questions worth asking a rigging company
- Will you survey the site in person, and what does the move plan include?
- What insurance do you carry, and does it cover the full value of my machine in your care?
- Who disconnects and reconnects electrical, air and fluids?
- How will you protect the floor, and do you need our floor capacity?
- Do you handle transport and permits, or subcontract them?
- Is leveling and anchoring at the destination included?
Ready to get your machinery moving project moving?
Start with what you know. Something like "Haas VF-4 vertical mill, about 8,000 lbs, moving from Maumee to Perrysburg, plant shut down the week of July 4" gives a rigger enough to plan a site visit.
